For employers who started offering the benefit before May 2023, bikes also come with an optional extended warranty, which matches the manufacturer’s liability for defects and covers the entire contract period.
This option is not available anymore for new framework contracts: Starter, Pro and Enterprise.
In practice, the extended warranty means that the repair of defects under liability for errors that occurred in the bike during the contract period will be compensated, even if the manufacturer's warranty has expired (the extended warranty does not apply to defects caused by normal wear and tear or use). Defects are not compensated only for the first or second year but until the end of the third or even fifth contract year.
Bike manufacturers usually offer a warranty that lasts 12–24 months. The optional extended warranty covers the remaining part of the contract period after the manufacturer’s warranty expires.
How can I know if I'm eligible for the extended warranty option?
Your eligibility for the option may vary depending on your employer's contract with Vapaus.
- If your employer has started offering the benefit before May 2023, you're likely to be eligible for the option
- If your employer has started offering the benefit in May 2023 or later, it is likely that you cannot purchase this option

What does the extended warranty cost?
The extended warranty option costs €2 per month for regular bikes and €4 per month for e-bikes. It is paid at the same time as ordering the bike, i.e. as soon as the contract starts.
It is not possible to purchase the option after the contract has started.
How to calculate the extended warranty costs:
(Contract months - manufacturer's warranty length in months) * €2 or €4 = Price of the extended warranty
Example: If the length of an e-bike leasing contract is 48 months and the manufacturer's warranty is 24 months, the extended warranty costs (48 - 24) x €4 = €96.
If the contract ends prematurely, the extended warranty is not refunded.
The employee pays the full price of the extended warranty to Vapaus after the bike has been ordered. If the employee acquires a bike from a local partner store, the employee must remember to order an extended warranty for his bike contract separately from Vapaus' customer service.
